Taxi to Manchester Airport & 24/7 Manchester Airport Transfers

⇄ Return journey?

Short answer: a taxi to Manchester Airport costs from about £25 from the city centre, £55 from Preston, £70 from Liverpool, £80 from Sheffield and £100 from Leeds in a saloon. The terminal drop off charge is paid by us, and the price is fixed when you book.

Manchester Airport Has Changed. Here Is What That Means for Your Taxi

Manchester handled over 32 million passengers in 2025, more than any UK airport outside London. To cope, it rebuilt itself. Since March 2026, every airline except Ryanair uses the new Terminal 2. Ryanair flies from Terminal 3, and Terminal 1 is no longer used.

Plenty of booking emails, hotel guides and sat navs still send people to Terminal 1. Tell us your airline when you book and that problem disappears. Our driver goes to the right forecourt first time.

What a Manchester Airport Drop Off Really Costs

Most people searching for a cheap taxi to Manchester Airport compare taxi fares. The bigger surprise is often the airport itself, which charges by the minute. This is what a friend or relative pays to drop you at the terminal door:

Manchester Airport drop off zone charges
Time in the drop off zone Charge
Up to 5 minutes£5.50
Up to 10 minutes£6.50
Up to 30 minutes (the maximum)£25
Picking someone up in the drop off zone£100 charge
Unpaid by midnight the next day£100 parking charge notice (£60 if paid within 14 days)

Coming back is charged too. The Express Pick Up area costs £6.60 for up to 15 minutes, and staying longer brings a £60 overstay charge. That is why a good driver waits for your message that your bags are off the belt before pulling in.

With us, every one of those charges is already in the fixed fare. If someone else is giving you a lift, JetParks 1 (M90 5AZ) is the free option, with a 24 hour shuttle bus to the terminals that takes about 6 minutes.

Crossing the Pennines: Leeds and Sheffield to Manchester Airport

Two of the busiest routes to Manchester Airport cross some of the highest roads in England. In summer that hardly matters. From November to March it can decide whether you make your flight.

Leeds to Manchester Airport Taxi

A taxi from Leeds to Manchester Airport costs from about £100 and takes 1 hour 10 minutes to 1 hour 30 minutes over the M62. Near junction 22, the M62 climbs to 372 metres on Windy Hill, the highest point of any motorway in England. In March 2018, snow closed that stretch overnight and left thousands of drivers stranded.

For winter flights from Leeds, we check the forecast for the M62 summit the evening before. If snow or freezing fog is expected, your pickup moves earlier, and the fare does not change. The same fixed price applies for a taxi from Manchester Airport to Leeds.

The cheapest way to do Leeds to Manchester Airport by taxi is to fill the car. Four people sharing a £100 saloon pay £25 each, door to door, with no change at Piccadilly.

Sheffield to Manchester Airport Taxi

A taxi from Sheffield to Manchester Airport costs from about £80 and takes 1 hour 15 minutes to 1 hour 30 minutes. Sheffield has three possible routes, and the right one changes with the weather.

Sheffield to Manchester Airport routes and when each is used
Route When we use it Watch out for
A628 Woodhead Pass Most of the year, the usual direct route Closes in heavy snow and high winds
A57 Snake Pass Clear days, south and west Sheffield One of the first roads to close in snow
M1 and M62 Winter nights, bad forecasts Longer, but rarely closed

Your fare is fixed before you travel, so if your driver takes the long way round to keep you safe, you pay the same.

West of Manchester: Liverpool, Chester and Runcorn

Taxi from Manchester Airport to Liverpool

A taxi from Manchester Airport to Liverpool costs from about £70 for the 35 mile trip. For north and central Liverpool, your driver uses the M56 and M62. For south Liverpool, Widnes and the Wirral, the Mersey Gateway Bridge at Runcorn is often quicker. The crossing costs a car between £2.15 and £2.40, and we include it in your fare when we use it. A taxi from Manchester city centre to Liverpool is a similar price along the M62.

Chester to Manchester Airport

A taxi from Chester to Manchester Airport costs from about £60 and takes 40 to 50 minutes. The M56 runs almost door to door, which makes this one of the most predictable airport runs in the North West. It is a good choice for early flights when you cannot afford surprises.

Runcorn to Manchester Airport

A taxi from Runcorn to Manchester Airport costs from about £45 and takes 25 to 30 minutes along the M56. Runcorn station is on the main line from London Euston, so it is a handy place to switch from train to car if you are coming up from the south.

North of Manchester: Preston, Lancaster and Southport

Everything north of the city funnels down the M6 and M61 into the M60, and the slowest point of the whole trip is usually where the M61 meets the M60 at weekday rush hour.

  • Preston to Manchester Airport: from about £55, 45 to 60 minutes.
  • Lancaster to Manchester Airport: from about £110, 1 hour 5 minutes to 1 hour 20 minutes, popular with Lancaster University students at the end of term.
  • Southport to Manchester Airport: from about £90, 1 hour to 1 hour 15 minutes, door to door with your luggage loaded for you.

Nottingham to Manchester Airport Taxi

A taxi from Nottingham to Manchester Airport costs from about £150 and takes 1 hour 45 minutes to 2 hours. There is no direct train, and the rail journey takes over two hours with at least one change. For a family with cases, a car that collects you from home and drops you at Terminal 2 or 3 removes the hardest part of the trip.

Manchester Piccadilly Station Taxi

A taxi from Manchester Piccadilly to the airport costs from about £25 and takes 20 to 30 minutes. Trains from Piccadilly run straight to the airport station, and for a solo traveller with a backpack they are hard to beat. The taxi is worth it when there are three or four of you, when you have heavy cases, or when you arrive late at night. For other stations, see our station taxis.

Minibus to Manchester Airport

For families, sports clubs and hen and stag weekends, our 8 seater minibus usually works out cheaper than two cars and gets everyone through the terminal doors together. Terminal 2’s lower forecourt has a 2 metre height limit, which is one reason we confirm the vehicle and drop off point for every group booking in advance. Groups bigger than eight get two or more vehicles arriving together. You can see every vehicle size in our fleet.

Safe and Secure Airport Transfers in Manchester

Your booking is handled by a TfL licensed private hire operator. Some journeys are carried out by trusted partner operators, and every driver is licensed and every vehicle insured. Before you travel, you receive your driver’s name, phone number and car registration. If anyone approaches you inside the terminal offering a minicab, say no: in the UK minicabs must be booked in advance, and an unbooked ride is unlikely to be insured.

Leave-By Times for a 6am Flight

Aim to reach Terminal 2 or 3 about two hours before a short haul departure. These pickup times include a 15 minute cushion. In winter, Leeds and Sheffield times may move earlier if the Pennine roads are poor.
