Taxi to Stansted Airport at a Fixed Fare

Airport CabConnect runs pre-booked taxis to Stansted Airport 24 hours a day from London, Cambridge, Essex, Hertfordshire and the rest of the UK. You get a fixed fare when you book. It includes the Stansted drop off charge, live flight tracking and one hour of free waiting after you land. A cab to Stansted Airport costs from about £65 from north and east London, £70 from Cambridge and £95 from central London.

London Stansted is a single terminal airport about 40 miles north east of central London, just off junction 8 of the M11. It is Ryanair’s biggest base, so much of its traffic is short European flights that leave in a wave from about 6am. That early start is the reason so many people book a taxi to London Stansted. The Stansted Express is quick once it is running, but getting to Liverpool Street with suitcases at 3am is another matter.

If you have been searching for a minicab to Stansted, it is the same service. Minicab is the everyday British name for a pre-booked private hire car, and every car we send is licensed and insured.

Stansted Taxi Fares

A Stansted taxi fare depends on three things: where you start, which vehicle you need and what time you travel. These are guide prices for a standard saloon, one way. Estates, people carriers, executive cars and 8 seaters cost more. Enter your pickup address to see your exact fixed price before you pay anything.

What the Fare Includes

Your quote is the total, not a starting price. It includes:

  • The Stansted Express Set Down or pick up charge
  • Car parking while your driver waits in arrivals
  • The London Congestion Charge and ULEZ where your trip passes through them
  • One hour of free waiting after you land, with your flight tracked live

Extra stops, extra waiting beyond the free hour, or a change of route on the day can cost more. If you need any of those, tell us when you book.

Stansted Taxi Fare by Vehicle

The vehicle you choose makes the biggest difference to the price. These are guide fares from central London to Stansted Airport, one way:

  • Saloon, up to 4 passengers with 2 medium cases: from £95
  • Estate, up to 4 passengers with 3 large cases: from £105
  • People carrier, up to 5 passengers with 4 large cases: from £115
  • Executive car, up to 4 passengers: from £145
  • 8 seater minibus, up to 8 passengers with 8 large cases: from £140

Taxi from Stansted to London

A taxi from Stansted to London costs from about £65 to north and east London, £85 to Canary Wharf and £95 to central London. Your driver takes the M11 south. For the City, Canary Wharf and east London, they then use the A12 or A13. For the West End, they join the A406 North Circular or come down the A10. The last part of the trip, inside London, is where most of the time goes, not the motorway.

Cab from Stansted to London: Which Part of London?

Where you are going in London changes the fare and the time more than anything else:

  • North and east London, such as Enfield, Walthamstow, Stratford and Ilford: about 40 to 60 minutes, because you leave the M11 close to home.
  • Canary Wharf and the City: about an hour, and usually quicker than the West End because the A12 runs straight in.
  • The West End, Kensington and west London: 1 hour 15 minutes or more at busy times, because you cross the whole city.

If you are staying in central London, a cab from Stansted to London drops you at the hotel door. You avoid the Stansted Express to Liverpool Street followed by a Tube or taxi across town with your bags. Our guide on getting from the airport to your hotel in London covers that part in more detail.

Taxi to London Stansted from London: When to Leave

For a morning flight, the roads out of London are quiet before 6am. A pickup from central London at around 2:50am gets you to the terminal for a 6:00am departure with time to spare. For afternoon flights on weekdays, the M11 and the North Circular build up from about 3:30pm. If you are leaving between 3:30pm and 7pm, add 30 minutes to your pickup.

Taxi Cambridge to Stansted Airport

A taxi from Cambridge to Stansted Airport costs from about £70 in a saloon and takes 35 to 50 minutes for the 30 mile trip. Your driver takes the M11 south from junction 14 or 11, depending on which side of the city you live, and leaves at junction 8 for the airport. It is one of the simplest airport runs in the country, and almost all of it is motorway.

Direct trains do run from Cambridge station to Stansted Airport, so a solo traveller living near the station can do the trip cheaply by rail. A taxi from Cambridge to Stansted makes more sense in a few situations:

  • You live in the villages around the city.
  • You are travelling as a family.
  • You have heavy bags.
  • Your flight leaves before the first trains.

We also collect from Saffron Walden, Royston, Newmarket and Ely.

Airport Transfers Stansted: Essex, Hertfordshire and Airport to Airport

Essex and Hertfordshire

Stansted is the closest airport for most of Essex and east Hertfordshire. Bishop’s Stortford is 15 minutes away, Harlow about half an hour, and Chelmsford around 45 minutes along the A120 and M11. Colchester and the Essex coast are about an hour away on the A120, which avoids the A12 completely.

Stansted to Heathrow, Gatwick and Luton

A transfer from Stansted to another London airport is common when a holiday starts at one airport and ends at another. Stansted to Heathrow is about 70 miles round the M25 and takes 1 hour 30 minutes to 2 hours. Stansted to Gatwick takes longer, because it means crossing the Dartford Crossing or the west side of the M25.

If you are connecting between flights on separate tickets, leave at least five hours between landing at Stansted and a long haul departure from Heathrow or Gatwick. The M25 is the one part of the trip nobody can promise. We also run Heathrow airport taxis, Gatwick airport transfers and Luton Airport taxis the same way.

Taxi, Stansted Express or Coach?

To be fair to the other options, each one is the cheapest choice for someone. Here is how they compare from central London.

Pre-booked taxi, Stansted Express and coach compared from central London
What matters Pre-booked taxi Stansted Express Coach
Price From £95 for the whole car About £20.70 per person, anytime single Usually the cheapest per person
Time from central London 1 hr to 1 hr 20 min, door to door About 50 minutes from Liverpool Street, plus getting to the station Often 1 hr 30 min or more
Early flights Any time, 24/7 Check the first train time carefully Limited early services
Best for Groups, families, heavy bags, early flights One or two people with light bags near Liverpool Street Tight budgets with time to spare

For one person near Liverpool Street with a small bag, the Stansted Express is hard to beat. For three or four people, the taxi often costs less per head and takes you door to door. If you are taking the train, our station taxis can get you to Liverpool Street or Tottenham Hale.

How Drop Off and Pick Up Work at Stansted

Dropping Off for Your Flight

Your driver uses the Express Set Down area next to the terminal. It costs £7 for up to 15 minutes, and much more if a car stays longer. That charge is already in your fare, so you never pay it on the day. Unpaid charges lead to a penalty notice, which is one reason we include the charge rather than leaving it to chance.

If a friend or relative is dropping you off instead, the Mid Stay car park is free for up to 60 minutes. A free shuttle runs from there to the terminal about every 10 minutes and takes around 7 minutes.

Meeting Your Driver After Landing

Your driver waits in the arrivals hall with a board showing your name, then walks with you to the car in the short stay car park, a few minutes’ walk from the terminal. Before you land, you get the driver’s name, number and car details by WhatsApp or email. We follow your flight number, so an early or late landing is not a problem. One hour of waiting after touchdown is free. For more on what happens after you land, see our guide to getting a taxi at Stansted Airport.

Allow Time for the Satellite Gates

Stansted’s gates are in satellite buildings away from the main terminal. Today you reach most of them on the track transit train or on foot, and the airport is building new skylink walkways as part of its terminal extension. The walk or ride to the gate can take 10 to 15 minutes on its own. So plan your pickup from your boarding time, not your departure time, especially with Ryanair, whose gates close well before the flight leaves.

Minibus to Stansted Airport

Our 8 seater minibus carries eight passengers, eight large cases and four smaller bags in one vehicle. Minibus hire for Stansted Airport is popular with families flying to the sun, stag and hen groups heading to European city breaks, school trips, sports teams and work groups. One minibus usually costs less than two cars and keeps everyone together.

Count wheeled cabin bags as cases when you choose a vehicle. Ryanair passengers often bring a wheeled cabin bag plus an under-seat bag each, and eight of those fill a boot fast. Tell us about skis, golf bags, pushchairs or sports kit when you book.

For groups bigger than eight, two or more vehicles arrive at the same time under one booking. You can compare every vehicle in our fleet, and families can read our tips on booking a family airport transfer.

Executive Mercedes chauffeur car for Stansted Airport

Stansted Airport Chauffeur Service

Our Stansted Airport chauffeur service uses executive Mercedes class saloons with leather seats, a suited driver and full privacy for calls on the way. The chauffeur meets you in arrivals and keeps the car close. That matters when you have a meeting in the City, Canary Wharf or Cambridge straight after landing.

Stansted also has a busy private and business jet side. If you are flying private, tell us the name of the private aviation terminal when you book, so your chauffeur goes to the right building rather than the main terminal. Companies that use Stansted regularly can set up a business account with monthly invoices.

What Time Should Your Taxi Collect You for an Early Stansted Flight?

For a short haul flight with hold luggage, aim to reach the terminal about two hours before departure. For a 6:00am flight, that means walking in at about 4:00am. These suggested pickup times include a 15 minute buffer for overnight roadworks, which are common on the M11 and M25.

Suggested taxi pickup times for 6:00am and 8:00am flights from Stansted Airport
Pickup from For a 6:00am flight For an 8:00am flight
Bishop’s Stortford3:35am5:30am

Chelmsford3:10am5:00am

The 8:00am times allow for morning traffic on the A406 and M11. If you are flying long haul or in the school holidays, book your pickup 30 to 60 minutes earlier.

Local Tips for Stansted Airport Transfers

Junction 8 of the M11

Almost every journey to Stansted passes junction 8 of the M11, where the motorway meets the A120. On Friday afternoons and at the start of school holidays, queues build here. If your flight is on a Friday evening in the holidays, add 20 minutes to your pickup.

Stansted Is Getting Bigger

Stansted passed 30 million passengers a year in 2025 and has had its busiest months on record in 2026. The airport is building a large terminal extension, and security has already been expanded. Building work can change walking routes inside the terminal, so give yourself a little extra time at the airport, especially in summer.

Save the Driver’s Number

Your driver’s name and number arrive before your trip. Save them in your phone before you fly. If your bag is slow off the belt or you get held up at passport control, a quick message lets your driver know you are on your way.
